North CCU HUB is at the heart of one of the greatest challenges of our time: limiting global warming. With annual emissions of more than 20 million tons of CO2 in the North Sea Port area alone, reducing industrial CO2 emissions is critical to
meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy. One of the innovative solutions to address these emissions is Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) - a technology that can convert CO2 into valuable end products.
PROBLEM
North CCU HUB faced the challenge of making complex technical information understandable and accessible to a wide audience. The knowledge around CO2 capture and reuse can often only be found in scientific literature or long, detailed PDF reports. The goal was to turn this content into a clear and concise video suitable for different audiences, including the Belgian federal government, the European Commission, and the participants of the Global Bioeconomy Summit.
How do you explain a complex concept like CCU in a way that even someone with no prior knowledge can understand?
APPROACH
I was given complete creative freedom for this project, from script development to design, animations and color. Every aspect of the video was carefully coordinated with the project manager to ensure the content was both scientifically correct and visually appealing.
The project ran over a period of two months, covering all creative phases from initial concept development to final delivery of the video.
SOLUTION
-
We opted for a clear, visually appealing explainer video, combined with an easy to understand script that explains the key points of CCU. The result is two versions of the video:
-
An extended 7-minute version, suitable for more in-depth presentations and explanations during important meetings.
-
A shorter, more concise 3-minute version for quicker introductions and overviews at various events and presentations.
The videos were successfully presented to key stakeholders, including the Belgian Federal Government, the European Commission, and at the Global Bioeconomy Summit. The clear explanations and visual style enabled the core message of North CCU HUB to be conveyed to policy makers, investors and scientists. By translating complex technical knowledge into an accessible video production, this project helped to broadly communicate the need for CO2 reduction and the possibilities of CCU technology.
